This is a wonderful video about the true beginnings of Ronald McDonald House. However, it is not the story of the beginning of Ronald McDonald House Charities. What is trying to be told is a sweet and successful story, but it is an implication of revisionist history. I spent 20 years of my life recruited by McDonald's Corporation in 1985 to develop a charitable organization that did not include Ronald McDonald House. It was called RMCC Ronald McDonald Children's Charities. This video tells a nice story about the beginnings of the Ronald McDonald House. However, it does not tell the true story of how Ronald McDonald House Charities started. While it aims to share a sweet and successful narrative, it reflects a history revision. I spent 20 years working with the McDonald's Corporation, starting in 1985, to create a charitable organization that did not include the Ronald McDonald House. This organization was called RMCC, or Ronald McDonald Children's Charities. In fact, 90% of the few Ronald McDonald Houses at that time, including the Philadelphia House, did not support the idea of RMCC taking over. The houses and the brand were important for support, but they would not have grown successfully on their own. The RMH family rooms faced opposition from the original Ronald McDonald House International board, which we later disbanded. Additionally, the RM Caremobiles began as part of a proposal from Loyola University Medical Center when they requested a Ronald McDonald Hospital based in Maywood, Illinois.s. 90% of the few Ronald McDonald Houses, including the Philadelphia House, opposed the concept and eventual takeover by RMCC. The houses were and are the cornerstone but would never have grown or succeeded globally to the restriction of the houses. The RMH family rooms were opposed by the original RMH international board, which we disbanded, and the RM Caremoibiles would never have been started had not been included in a proposal from Loyola University Medical Center as part of their request for a Ronald McDonald Hospital based in Maywood Il. The corporation took over control from a staff that worked very hard to isolate the 501c3 organization from mingling, albeit somewhat impossible, the appearance of control by the corporation. I rejected so many requests to advance the brand of McDonald's so that the customers were not helping McDonald's win a real estate suit by influencing the town council with contributions to a pet project of the city. This also protected McDonalds. So I wore both hands carefully. The charity became very large, and somewhere after I was gone, RMHC went back to limiting their gifts only to the easy things. RMHC has immunized 100 million women in Far East Asia from tetanus, operated on children worldwide with Cleft plates and lips, and produced programs for kids with disabilities like limb lengthening, nighttime basketball programs, and so much more. With a program called Changing the Face of the Earth. Thousands of stories I have experienced by keeping the brands apart. And so much more good could have been done.

I once put a 50 into the box, but because they knew I didn't have much money they gave it back in a thank you letter singed by Ronald and his team. I still have that card packed away safely in a box in my room. I love Ronald McDonald and I love McDonalds' food! I am going to America next year just to see him and I'm taking him for a big mac and a bud!!!!

I’m so tired of the commercial that asks what do you do if your child is sick and you live far away from a hospital ( or such - not sure of exact wording). The answer is, you do everything humanly possible. My child suffered just such a fate and the last thing I thought of was Ronald McDonald. Responsible parents move heaven and earth to do anything for their child. We were blessed to have help from family, friends and the community. As much as organizations such as yours act to help others, don’t make it sound like that is the only help available.

Jonah and Lynn are amazing people. They help me more than I can say here, and I will never forget them.
